Discover delicious Portugal by motorhome

France has its Passion places, the UK has Britstops…and now Portugal has the new Easycamp network of vineyards and artisan farms where motorhomers can stay for (almost) free.

We’ve been chatting with Teresa Sa Matos about this new venture that makes it easy to discover beautiful rural Portugal.

So, what’s Portugal EasyCamp?

The idea’s a simple one. Help local winemakers and other artisans of food and drink share their delicious produce. And help motorhomers uncover places and tastes they’d otherwise have missed.

Wine, olives and a taste of the country

“We’re the first network of motorhome farm stopovers in Portugal,” says Teresa. “We only launched in November 2019, but we already have 25 quintas and wineries to choose from. By the end of 2020, we hope to be throughout the whole of Portugal and there’ll be even more choice. I have to say, though, that we only take on partners who really offer good quality and a great experience for visitors.”

Three easy steps to book

There are just three steps involved – and all taken care of through Teresa’s website.

First you select your farm from the map, then you buy the specified welcome pack, which might be bottles of wine or other produce. Prices are low – from around €12 to €30. When you collect your goodies, you can then stay over for 24 hours, perhaps visiting the wine cellars, tasting the olive oil or exploring the country estate.

So far, it’s mostly wine, but keep an eye on the project as it grows. Teresa has big plans and a real eye for lovely places.

You can find Portugal EasyCamp here.

Campervans too?

Just a note – the scheme is really only open to motorhomes with their own toilet and washing facilities. However, our travels in Portugal have shown us how friendly and helpful most Portuguese people are. It might be possible to work out something with the host if you contact them in advance.

If not, the Camperstop book is a great resource.
